With less than a weeks notice I put out a shout, out to our GPPG (aka Gransden Powered Para Glider) group “any one want to come to Chamonix” for a spot of paragliding for a few days. First to answer and secure the place was Ed Sage.
Ed is known as “prince perfect” with his faultless takeoff and landings with his paramotor. Ed it transpires had less than 10 PG flights prior to the trip.
The trip down to Annemasse in the RV7 with 3 gliders, 2 harness with a reserve and luggage filled the 50 kgs permitted.
We have to stop at Le Touquet for passport inspection prior to trip down to the alps. We need to file a flight plan as crossing an international boarder being Switzerland at mid point lake Geneva.
With a total of 2hr 50 mins we land at LFLI, off load baggage and pick up the pre arranged hire car. 40 mins later we arrive in Chamonix.
The tranquility of the mountains with stunning views is so therapeutic.
We pop into Air Sports Chamonix to hire a BGD wing being newer and better performance than the training wing we had with us.
Conditions are forecast perfect for the following day. The scene is set for a 07:45 departure from the Challet to take the cable car to Aiguille du Midi and 12,600 feet . It took over 3 years for perfect conditions coinciding with my previous visits and here we are Ed hits the jackpot first time. 🙂
The following video tells the remaining story. Thanks to our fellow GPPG member Mark Allison for the edit.
