Royal Aero Club Awards for achievements in 2018

Mark and Tom receive the RAeC Silver medal

The Citation reads :-

Mark Jefferies (team founder) and Tom Cassells (formation leader) are the driving forces behind the Global Stars Aerobatic Team, show-casing globally the UK’s talent in formation aerobatics. They have travelled across the Middle East, India and China and performed at major air shows in the UK including Farnborough, giving four-ship displays in their distinctive starburst liveried aircraft.

Mark began his flying career in 1980 and progressed through the competition ranks to become a world class solo display pilot. He is a past UK champion at Advanced and Unlimited level and a World Bronze medallist. He is an extremely knowledgeable aircraft engineer and is now also a UK certified paramotor display pilot. His airfield at Little Gransden is home to an annual charitable air show, as well as aerobatic training events.

Tom is a former tank commander and successful leader of large logistics companies. He has always been involved in aviation, from his early days as a para-dropping pilot to his current role as an advanced aerobatic instructor. He has introduced many pilots to the world of aerobatic competition and his dedication to safety and development of flying skills is well recognised. He is the UK’s most experienced Unlimited competitor and a team Silver medal winner.

Together Mark and Tom have flown the flag for the UK in a number of prestigious world events, in China, India and Bahrain supporting our aviation industry in its drive to maintain and develop its world-leading capabilities. It is for this hard work, skill and professional showmanship that we commend Mark and Tom as worthy recipients of the RAeC Silver Medal.

MJ footnote – The RAeC recognition would not be possible without mentioning and thanking other team members. Chris Burkett, Steve Carver, Mike Pickin, Chris Heames, Tom Bootyman, Neil France, Chris Jones & Arunas Monkevicius
